Farmland loss is complicated.

Often the first to blame for the loss are developers or companies that buy up farmland and build housing developments or warehouses in its place. It is difficult to argue against people having homes to live in and yet, our farmers need affordable housing and land to grow food for us.

Warehouses are an extremely inefficient use of farmland and a permanent end of that land.

We can have both with thoughtful planning and stemming the tide with organizations such as FarmLink WA.

Farmland should remain as commercially viable farmland, not estates, homesteads, horse ranches or uses that don’t provide food to the general populace.

Farmland is at it’s most appropriate and efficient use when it is kept in food production; production that can benefit us all and not just the owners of that land.
